| What the Cities Are Talking About |
| Pawlitics: Community members are pushing back at a proposed resolution to decommission the Minnehaha Off-Leash Dog Park. The park would stay open to the public but would require dogs to be on leash. A Change.org petition to "Stop the Rushed Shutdown of the Minnehaha Off-Leash Dog Park" has over 1,000 signatures, and some members of local tribes have voiced disagreement with the idea that off-leash dogs are bad for the land. The Minneapolis Park Board will meet tomorrow at 5 p.m. to consider the resolution. [Star Tribune] | | Free money alert: About 588,000 Minnesota homeowners will get a larger refund than usual on their property taxes this year. If you own the house you live in and your household income is less than $142,490, make sure to file for a Property Tax Refund and get your bag. [Pioneer Press] | | Late night bites: When I first moved to the Twin Cities, I was shocked at how few restaurants are open late. There's definitely some gems though if you know where to look. Some folks on Reddit recently shared their favorite late-night eats – my go-to spot is Zhora Darling. Where do you like to grub like a gremlin when it's past midnight? Reply to the email to let me know, and I might see you out there. [Reddit] | | | Figuring out how to transfer between different transit lines could get easier this year. | Better signs ahead: Metro Transit has launched an online survey to get community feedback on how to make it easier for folks to find their way around the Twin Cities. The agency's goal is for riders "to quickly know what to do without having to use their phone or ask for directions," and they'll use feedback to upgrade wayfinding signage in both downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul over the next year. [Star Tribune] | | Trying to recover: The City of Minneapolis' $7 million Small Business Resilience Fund is starting to pay out to local businesses that took large economic hits from Operation Metro Surge. For many business owners, the check in the mail is met with a "grateful shrug," as it's not nearly enough to cover the estimated $700 million caused by ICE's occupation of the Twin Cities. By the way, we're going to be tabling at the Minnesota Aurora game tomorrow night! I'm stoked to see the team crush the Sioux Falls City FC, and it's also the only time you'll be able to get some really cool Aurora x Hippo Campus merch. |
